Kindly refrain from adhering any cards or decorations to the crypts. Adhesives leave a permanent stain on the crypt-front that cannot be removed and, ultimately damage the marble or granite stone. Only artificial flowers installed in vases are permitted.
Bronze vases, crucifixes, cameo pictures and United States military emblems are available for purchase by contacting the office at (973) 279-2900.
Flags are permitted from Memorial Day until Independence Day (July 4th).
If your deceased family member was a veteran and a registered member of a local VFW or other veteran organization, they may place a flag at their gravesite. You are also welcome to place a flag at their gravesite. Flags may be purchased at local flag stores also.
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs provides guidelines for display of the flag, and specifically state the American flag should never touch anything beneath it (i.e., ground, floor, water, merchandise, etc. ). If you happen to see a flag touching the ground, please pick it up and place the post properly into the ground to ensure it is secure and upright.
Holy Sepulchre works closely with local veteran organizations that will return to the cemetery to remove the flags within the two weeks after Independence Day. Depending on their physical condition and appearance, the flags will be put in storage and used again next year.
Please note, while the flags are removed from gravesites after the permitted time period as noted in the cemetery's rules and regulations, the American flag is displayed year-round in Section 29 by the priest plot.
Thank you to all who have placed flags at the gravesite of our veterans! God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.
